Volleyball players from the main Russian team squad Yana Shcherban, Tatiana Kosheleva, Nataliya Goncharova and Ekaterina Pankova will not participate in Yeltsin Cup that takes place in Yekaterinburg June 26-30. Head coach of Russian women’s national volleyball team Vladimir Kuzyutkin announced the fact at TASS press conference.
“Four team leading players are not going to participate in the tournament, they are: Kosheleva, Goncharova, Shcherban and Pankova. Yana Shcherban together with Kosheleva and Goncharova were in core team, but, unfortunately, Shcherban has got an injury and did not participated in qualifying competition. For this tournament, where I planned she would play, she has not recovered yet”, – he stated.
According to head coach, absence of such players will not allow the team to show the highest result at Yeltsin Cup. “In the same time, we do not want fans appreciate us as a bit-player. We can show the fight, will to fight, a game in defense, so what we have for today”, – Kuzyutkin underlined and added that in team squad there would be a chain of setter and four leading centre players.
