
Coaching staff of Russian women’s national team announced the lineup for Yeltsin Cup 2017. The team was formed due to the results of European qualification for World Championship 2018, as well as preparation for European Championship 2017 that will take place in September.
World Championship preliminary round for Russian team was a success. In Croatia Osijek our team won 5 out of 5 games and took the 1st place in its group. Among the defeated teams were Croatia, Hungary, Georgia, Greece and Austria. Along with Russian team, the teams of Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Azerbaijan and Germany got the straight line to World Championship 2018 in Japan.
It should be mentioned that Serbia (silver winner of Rio 2016) and Turkey, both ones of the strongest world teams, will participate in Yeltsin Cup 2017. Among the participants is also Bulgarian team that came second in the group stage qualification to World Championship 2018 and continues its fight.
Considering the loud names of participants, the international tournament in Yekaterinburg is becoming more significant in preparation to European Championship 2017 that runs in Azerbaijan and Georgia from September 22 until October 1.
Therefore, the fans are going to see the star teams’ lineups in the Urals capital. Regarding our team, there will be the strongest country’s volleyball players, except three leaders that coaches gave a rest before European Championship: Tatyana Kosheleva, Natalia Goncharova and Ekaterina Pankova.
Their first play in Yeltsin Cup 2017 the girls have in June 26. Russian team plays with Kazakhstan. Start at 19:30. Admission free.
It is to be recalled that five teams participate in Yeltsin Cup 2017: Russia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Serbia. All tournament games will be held in Palace of Sports in June 26-30.
In addition, journalists and volleyball fans have an opportunity to see Russian team before the competition starts. June 20 the open training of our team starts at 16:30 in Palace of Sports’ main arena.
