Serbia has won Yeltsin Cup 2017.

15th anniversary tournament for Yeltsin Cup has ended in Yekaterinburg. In the final match two favorites of this season met on the court – national teams of Serbia and Russia. In the severe match, Serbian volleyball players gained the victory with a score 3:2, consequently in the tournament.

Along the competition, before meeting with each other, both teams won 3 victories each, so the destiny of the trophy determined this match. It should be reminded, that Russian team is a fundamental rival for Serbians. They had defeated our team in quarterfinal at Rio Olympics 2016, and then got to the final.

For Yeltsin Cup Serbian team came with its strongest lineup: 6 silver Olympic medalists and 4 European champions. So this match has become a real challenge for our team. Serbians led in the first set – 19:25. Second set was equal, but after the messy end, Russians were able to lead – 25:22. The third set was complicated, at first Serbian team was ahead for 5 points, then Russians could catch up with the guests, but still remained overtaker – 21:25. The fourth set, however, was tough and ended with 28:26 for Russian team. Tie-break determined the fate of the tournament. The competitors were neck-and-neck and only in the end, Serbians could win 2 points – 14:16. Serbians get the Cup. Russia is the second.

In another match of the final day, Turkey team confidently bet Kazakhstan 3:0 and for the second time in history became the bronze winner of Yeltsin Cup.

To mention, the best blocker became ex-player of Uralochka-NTMK Irina Koroleva (Zaryazhko).

Closing ceremony happened right after the match, where participated such guests as a wife of the first president Naina Yeltsin, First Deputy Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Aleksey Orlov, Deputy Head of Yekaterinburg Administration Mikhail Matveev, Head of Nizhniy Tagil Andrey Zyablitsev, managing director of EVRAZ NTMK Aleksey Kushnarev, CEO of Uralochka volleyball club Valentina Ogienko, supervisor of women’s teams of Russian Volleyball Federation Vladislav Fadeev.

Fourth match day

Matches of the fourth day ran in Yekaterinburg at the international volleyball tournament Yeltsin Cup 2017. Russian national team met with Bulgaria and won in all three sets.

The first set was equal. The court hosts attacked confidently, but often could not block the rapid returns of the competitors. The main star of Bulgarian team Elitsa Vasileva who now plays in Dinamo Kazan set the pace of the attacks. To the middle of the set Russians had the excel of 3 points – 16:13, but soon let won themselves – 18:19.

Attacker from Uralochka-NTMK Kseniia Parubets managed to change the situation gaining 4 points in row. The end was also pleasant for Russian team – 25:22.

In the second set fans could see a little advantage of Russia, but the game, in general, was equal. After a thrilling end, our team won – 26:24.

In the third period Russians saved the pace and by the second technical time-out had a very comfort domination – 16:9, and by the end -25:18 in the set and 3:0 in the match. That was the third Russian victory at the tournament.

In another match of the day national team of Serbia defeated Turkish team with a score 3:1 (25:17, 18:25, 25:21, 25:22). In the last tournament day, the final match will be between two favorites of the Yeltsin Cup 2017 – national teams of Russia and Serbia. Volleyball fans will see a hot game. Third match day

Today was a third match day at Yeltsin Cup. Russian national team had a day-off; however, spectators could enjoy the game of one of the best world team. Serbian star lineup won masterfully over Kazakhstan with a score 3:0.

In the first set silver winners of the Rio Olympics 2016 exceled greatly Kazakhstan national team – 25:12. Situation had not changed in the second set – 25:10, as well as in the third – 25:13. Generally, 3:0 – certain victory of Serbian national team.

This match has become the fastest at the tournament: the match lasted just one hour and 16 minutes.

In another match of this day Turkey national team expectedly turned stronger than their competitors from Bulgaria. Although Bulgarian team seemed equal, Turkey was able to get the advantage of two points in the nervous end. In total – 3:0 (25:11, 27:25, 25:20) for Turkey team.

The nearest match for Russian team will be with Bulgaria, June 29, 17:00 (Moscow time). Serbia meets Turkey at 14:30.
